When Life Throws You a Curveball
You’ve got it all planned out.
Every detail.
Every date, time and place.
Exactly how it will “go down.”
But then...LIFE HAPPENS.
As much as we want to think we’re in control, we’re not. But sometimes “life” has a better plan than you, if you allow it to run it’s course.
See a few years ago I had all the plans made. I would finish college by X date, get a job, get married, have kids...blah, blah, blah. But that’s not how it happened at all.
In fact, the curve ball was actually a blessing in disguise. It made me slow down, rethink and realize that I’m not as powerful as I thought. Now keep in mind, I’m not talking about some life shattering type of curve ball as some people face, but for the girl who had never had any “real” life issues, it stopped me in my tracks.
In May 2003, while finishing up my undergraduate degree I experienced my first family death. My maternal grandmother, Mema, passed away very suddenly changing the direction I had planned upon graduation. Looking back, it changed the entire course of my life; career path, who I would marry, where I would live, but all in the best way. You see, had I not come home from Wilmington to be with my mom after Mema’s death I would have never decided to go into education or met my husband.
God was setting me up for the hardships of infertility in the future knowing I would need a strong husband to help me handle that situation. He knew I would need someone to also help me pursue my hopes and dreams, even when they seemed crazy and out of reach. He also knew that I would need my family to as I dealt with all of those things and life in general.
You see curve balls aren’t always a bad thing. Sometimes they allow us to rethink, regroup and become better individuals. So as much as I love to plan, I’ve also learned that some things are just out of my control.
Ask yourself to consider the positive side of the curve balls life has thrown you and may bring down the road. You never know the positive impacts that could be waiting on the other side.
With Love,
