Staying Sane During the Hustle & Bustle

As much as I try to enjoy the holidays and savor the season, in reality it’s hard.

With family spread out in a 60 mile radius and having split homes what should be a joyous time often turns into a rat race to fit it all in.  I’m making it a priority this year to really try and take my time, not rush and remember the true meaning of the season.

One of the easiest ways to do this is plan.  Yep...the girl who said she wasn’t going to plan as much in 2018 is doing just that to finish the year.  By planning events early, we start talking about this in August, I’m able to allocate the appropriate time needed for each family function.  My family has also learned that due to distance, having multiple events on one day is actually great for me!

As controversial as it may be, decorating early can help you more than you may want to admit.  With kids’ activities, church, family and general life, November and December seen to last a whole 10 days.  If I waited until after Thanksgiving to put my Christmas decor up I would not enjoy it due to never being home.  So call me untraditional or disrespectful to the pilgrims if you wish, but having a little tinsel with your turkey will make your holiday a little less stressful.

Shopping early and shopping online are another time saver.  For the last 5 years I’ve had a goal to have all the shopping complete by October 31.  Now this may sound unrealistic, however you can still get good deals and with holiday being promoted earlier and earlier each year, you’re not missing out on anything by checking off your list early.  Also, by shopping local you can support other families just like yours. [Stay tuned for a blog about this topic soon.]

Above all, don’t forget the real reason for the season. It only comes once a year.  Whether you plan it all out and do your decorating and shopping early or stay traditional in your timing, by honoring the babe who was born that night in Bethlehem it will be a Merry Christmas!

With Love,
