Tell us about yourself:

I was born and raised in Mount Olive, North Carolina. I received my B.S. in Accounting from NC State University and my law degree from Campbell University. After law school, I worked for the NC Bankers Association as Chief Financial Officer for 6 years. My husband, Will, and I live in Dudley with our only daughter Lily.

How did you become a business owner?

While I was on maternity leave, the opportunity to purchase Sugar Babies presented itself and Will and I agreed it was the right time for our family. I had been commuting to Raleigh for 4 years and needed the flexibility owning my own business could provide. I have owned the store since April 1 of 2017 and since then we have doubled our square footage and offerings.

What types of items and brands do you offer? Also any other services?

Sugar Babies specializes in children's apparel, accessories and gifts. The store offers brands such as, Banana Split, Three Sisters, Millie Jay, The Beaufort Bonnet Company, Oaks Apparel, Funtasia Too, Vive La Fete, Livie & Luca, Wee Ones Bows, Jefferies Socks, Melissa & Doug, Ilybean, Stephen Joseph, L'Amour and Angel, and so many more! We offer complimentary gift wrap services, baby registries, and monogramming.

What have you found to be the biggest obstacle since becoming a small business owner?

The biggest obstacle to owning your own business is, everything depends on you. It is difficult to do the "office" side of running a business, work the sales floor, monogram and keep up with all of the changes in the retail world.

What has been the biggest reward in owning your own business?

The biggest reward to owning my own business is controlling my own success. I can control to an extent my schedule, the amount of income and the direction of my career. Previously, all of these things were not completely in my control.

Where are you located?

The store is located at 405 N. Spence Ave., Goldsboro, NC 27534 in Cobblestone Place. It is open Monday - Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. We are open 24/7 on our website www.sugarbabiesboutique.com.
