October Business Spotlight : Rebecca’s of Clinton

This month’s featured business is Rebecca’s of Clinton, owned and operated by Rebecca Kennedy Brown. I love love love Rebecca’s for many reasons, but the great quality clothes and exceptional customer service are what keep me coming back over and over.

I had the opportunity to talk with the owner and visionary behind the business, and here is what she had to say.

Tell us about yourself:

In 1996 in Warsaw, NC, started my first business; floor covering sales and installation. I was the too young age of 22. What was I thinking? I worked in that industry for 15 years during which time it evolved into custom window treatments, bedding, wallpaper, and general decorating. In 2005 I opened the second location in Clinton. This second location provided full decorating services to new construction and existing homes, as well as residential and commercial properties.

In 2007 I wanted more of a "fun job" (AHAHAHA) and I opened The Preppy Poodle Children's Boutique. This later evolved into Rebecca's of Clinton with ladies accessories and clothing becoming the main focus.

What types of items, brands and services do you offer?

Rebecca's is a mid to upper price branded boutique. Some of our top selling lines are Jude Connally, Tyler Boe, Escapada, Lisette L, Lola Jeans, Judy P, Clara Sun, Nicole Shoes, Oka B Shoes, just to name a few. Last year, recognizing a need for lower price, non branded ladies clothing, A Boutique Outlet was birthed. I pop into the outlet occasionally but my main focus is ROC.

We recently began offering Tuxedo Rental, by Paul Morrell. Our ladies party and formal dresses have expanded to include prom, mother of the bride/groom and bridesmaid dresses as well. Our limousine service is the cherry on top (more details at www.bashtonspartyrentals.com )

What have you found to be your biggest obstacles and rewards as a business owner?

Currently the biggest obstacle I face is how to juggle the demands of home life and the responsibility of self employment. Thankfully, I have a long term "boss", my youngest sister Beth, who can hold down the fort when I am cheering Hanna on the volleyball court or sitting slightly confused watching Ashton on the soccer field. Retail hours are not the best with middle and high school children. Otherwise, I rarely see an obstacle in business that is not defeat-able. My husband Dodd plays a huge role in keeping the business running and me organized as well. It really is a family affair.

The greatest reward, for me personally, is having an idea and seeing it to fruition. Looking back at ROC , 11 year later, it's like, “Wow! I actually made this work!”

One of the greatest things I treasure, because of Rebecca's, is the many people I have met in all walks of life who I may have never otherwise known. It has helped to forge relationships with locals and customers from afar-regulars. I have some customers from as far away as California.
